Day 95 - Saturday, July 7th 2018: Inis Mor (Aran Islands) to Spiddal 21 km / Total 1962 km, 20°C, cloudy
I had a strange night (which is sad as I had a bed). It was too hot and I dreamt ticks were climbing me! As I had to take the 8:15 am ferry, I woke up early. Too early I guess as the water wasn't back in the bathroom when I left the hostel.
I finished my night sleeping on the boat. And even when I arrived at Rossaveel Pier, I still wasn't very awake. I walked to the shop to find food for my dinner and then I decided I needed a real breakfast before I could start my walk.
The first part of the walk was on a little road, between walled fields, with horses and donkeys. Then I reached the main road leading straight ahead to Galway and following the coastline. There was a lot of traffic on the road, still, because of the weather, holidays and weekend, I think. Fortunately, there was a footpath all along the road, so it wasn't too dangerous. Despite the clouds, the weather remained warm, and it was very heavy.
After taking a break at a closed petrol station where I was hoping to find something to drink, I met Johnny on the road. He was waiting for a bus which never came, so he decided to walk, like me. He asked me why I was walking, so I explained my trip. He seemed to be surprised by my story, and despite he thought it was crazy, he was really interested. So I gave him my card before getting into a shop to get some water. Later in the evening (when I turned on my phone, which remains off while I'm walking when I'm not sure I'll be able to charge it at night), I got a message from him, telling me he had an Airbnb and I could use his washing machine. That was very kind to him.
One hour before Spiddal, my feet asked for a stop. So I entered the first pub I found. Full of men. And some kids, only boys. They didn't pay attention to me: World Football Cup was on TV and England was winning against Sweden. I just asked for half a cider (I know I shouldn't drink alcohol while I'm on the road but I still feel ashamed to go into a pub and ask for a glass of water) and sat in a corner. The forgotten customer with a big bag.
Then I arrived in Spiddal, quite a busy place, it seems I was getting close to a big city ... I walked to the campsite 1 km in the north of town. Far away enough from the noise of the road I heard all day.
