Day 94 - Thursday, July 5th 2018: Camus to Inis Mor (Aran Islands) 13 km / Total 1941 km, 16°C, sunny
Due to midges and ticks in the morning, I quickly packed my tent without taking breakfast, just to run away as fast as possible from my campsite, avoiding the farmer who went out to look after his sheep.
So I started my walk at 8 am, earlier than usual. And of course, until 9:30 am there was more traffic on the road. I wanted to try to catch the 11:45 am ferry, as I didn't book it (having no real idea when I'll reach the pier), just in case it was full, to get a chance to take the next ferry. I had to walk 13 km which means 3h15, and I did it as fast as possible. I just took a short breakfast and my morning tea in Costelloe. And finally, I arrived at Rossaveel at 11:15 am and got my ticket for the ferry, despite there were many tourists and teenage groups.
How was the cruise? I don't know. I didn't get enough sleep the night before, and with my morning fast walk, I was so tired that I just slept. Besides, the weather was grey, cloudy, almost misty, so not there wasn't a great view.
I woke up one hour later in Kilronan Harbour. I went straight to my hostel to drop my bag, and then I looked out for lunch before starting to explore the island.
In the evening, I took a big shower before the night water cut off, and it was great to feel clean and wash my hair after three nights of wild camping.
My roommate Florence was also French. Last year she hiked the West Highland Way in Scotland. We talked until late. She advised me to read the book of Nicolas Bouvier regarding the Aran Islands. As I realized she read the same explorer books (Sylvain Tesson, Sarah Marquis, ...) I thought that it's when you start to meet people like you or who like the same things as you that you are in the right place, where you belong.
