Day 84 - Friday, June 22nd 2018: Clare Island to Killeen 8 km / Total 1742 km, 15°C, sunny

I had the ferry for myself when I left Clare Island. All the tourists took the blue boat, and I was the only one on the red boat, the fastest one. As the sea was very calm, I could stand up on the back deck and watch the island as I was getting away.

Then, after a short walk on a little road, I reached the beach and decided to walk it. Nobody. Sunshine, blue sky and sea. Beautiful. I crossed some rocks and reached another beach, with surfers. The sea was so beautiful that I decided to take a bath, or at least I tried to. I undressed behind a big rock and let's go. It was cold of course, but mostly for my feet. The rest of my body was almost okay. I didn't have to go far away to swim and there were waves so I just immersed myself (not my head). It was good for my muscles and my blood I think. I didn't stay in the water too long because my feet didn't really like it. I got out, got dried and got dressed before getting cold.

I left the beach and took a little road looking for my hostel. On the way, I met a french couple in a camper van, coming from Corsica! Then at a crossroad, I asked a guy for my way. His name was Seamus, and I had a full interview: where I come from, how old I am, where and when did I start, when will I finish, how many kilos is my backpack, do I have a blog, etc. I answered all his questions and he offered me chocolate biscuits (I was so hungry) and told me to be very careful. Like all the people who feel concerned about my safety, I gave him my card, so he can follow me online and be sure I'm safe.

My hostel was really great. There was a very good atmosphere, I really enjoyed it. Shane who was in charge told me the story of the hostel which belongs to a surf and kitesurfing company in Dublin built by a group of friends, and who organizes kitesurfing trip in Tanzania. I found that story really amazing. He also left the big city (Dublin) to live here, for the same reasons I left Paris. I got to meet his girlfriend Mélisande, who is French. She's from Vendée and used to work at the Puy du Fou. She moved to Ireland three years ago and lives in Cong, where she's now working at Ashford castle. We talked about how friendly are people in Ireland, so much more than in France!
