Day 68 - Saturday, June 2nd 2018: Ardoone to Deirbhiles Twist 21 km / Total 1463 km, 17°C, cloudy

I like when I can start the day walking along the beach. It's peaceful with the sound of the waves and the sand is soft under my feet.

I joined the main road after the Golf Club, and I had to focus on the traffic. Not so important for that Bank holiday week-end. Maybe because the weather wasn't so good. I got the impression the peninsula was stuck in a cotton bubble. Impossible to see something on the other side of Blacksod Bay.

I found a shop in Binghamstown and a bench close to the Pier, where I could eat my lunch. But it was quite cold with the wind, so I didn't stop for too long. The weather only started to get clear at the end of the afternoon when I reached the south end of the peninsula, and I could see some little islands but still not Achill Island.

As I crossed a village, a dog started to walk with me. I sat on a bench outside the village, and he waited with me. Then, I continued my road to Deirbhiles Twist, and he was still walking with me. As I arrived at the Circle stones (it's not a megalithic and ancient site, it's modern, made for the sculpture trail), and started to build my tent, he got thirsty, but I couldn't give him the water because I needed it for cooking and to drink the day after. So he finally understood I had nothing for him and that it was the end of the walk, and decided to go back home. I still wonder where he would have followed me if it was not the end of the day.

My bivouac was the best I had so far. Hidden from houses by rocks, perfectly quiet, only a little wind, no one around (no cow or sheep), and no midges. I understand while this area was sacred and chose by St Deirbhile. I had a great sleep with the smell of dry heather.
