Day 65 - Wednesday, May 30th 2018: Rossport to Kilcommon 19 km / Total 1394 km, 21°C, sunny
I woke up at 5pm, with the sunrise, wondering where I was and with a headache. Outside there was a bright shining full moon. I fell asleep again until 8:30 am, the sun was shining directly on my tent, it was 30°C inside, too hot, I needed fresh air.
I packed my tent and waited 9:30 am for Melissa who opened the pub, so I could access the bathroom and get some water for my breakfast. She offered me a cup of tea and we talked about life here, how cold and windy it is in the winter. As I was leaving at 11am, Tony was back at the pub for a beer, so I could thank him for the salmon I ate for my breakfast and which was indeed really delicious.
Then I went to say goodbye to Barney as his house was on my way. He was expecting me to stay at his home, which was very kind to offer such hosting (and also to use his washing machine), with a great view on Rossport, but my hostel was already booked and as I was running out of cash, I had to go to Belmullet on the next day. Always the same problem.
One hour later, I met Tony again on the road. And after that, it was only me and the road. Long deserted road. No shop, no pub, nowhere to stop, only bog and pine tree forest where you can't get in, so you can't get the shadow to refresh. And even if you find it, midges will attack you.
At the end of the day, I reached my hostel which was very clean, comfy and cosy. I could finally take my first shower since Ballina. Such a luxury to get clean. I gave my clothes to the owner who washed it and dried it at night. I had a perfect and very quiet sleep. One of my best!
