Day 62 - Sunday, May 27th 2018: Lacken Strand to Ballycastle Beach 18 km / Total 1334 km, 22°C, sunny
In the morning, I packed my tent and went to cook my breakfast on a table, in the resting area. While I was eating, a man came to talk to me. He saw me walking and explained to me he did the Camino in Portugal last year and knows how difficult it is to find a bathroom. So he gave me his keys, told me he was living in the house with the blue door, and that I could use the bathroom, while he was going for his 20min walk. Incredible! So I quickly washed myself, my dishes and filled my bottle. I was worried not to find water on that day, and thanks to Irish generosity, the problem was solved.
There's something of the Good Samaritan in Irish people.
Little road in the morning with almost no one, except a man bottle-feeding a baby cow, because its mother was too old and had bad milk. I think I learn more here about livestock than at the annual Agriculture Exhibition.
In the long-distance, Slieve League, Ben Bulben and Knocknarea were in the mist.
When I arrived at Downpatrick Head, there was a food truck, so I had something for lunch today, which was not expected. The guy gave me twice French fries and kept my big bag while I went to visit the site. There's a big hole in the land, and a massive rock left alone aside from the huge cliffs. You could think the Leprechauns cut a piece of Ireland's cake and threw it in the sea. But apparently, it's only my imagination. The rock in the sea was a fort (Downpatrick comes from the Gaelic "Dun Padraig" the fort of Patrick) attached to the land, but a storm destroyed the bridge which used to unite it. Looking at that rock and the waves attacking it, I thought about the island of Ireland daily attacked by the ocean, and thought, one day that's all that's gonna be left of Ireland. The sea will eat it.
The afternoon was very hot, and I was pleased to reach Ballycastle Beach and to put my feet in the cold water. I waited until the evening so there was no one anymore to set up my tent. And I made sure there would be no cow in the area !
