Day 6 - Saturday, March 24th 2018: Drogheda to Dunany 23 km / Total 123 km, 12°C, sunny

For my last evening at the hostel in Drogheda, there was a new guy sharing my room. Steve, from Sligo in Connaught (west coast) and working in Kilkenny, with a strong Irish accent, but I did my best and I think I caught everything he told me. I really appreciated discussing with him, because he taught me so much about Ireland modern History (from the civil war to independence) and politics, how the 2 main parties in Ireland were formed. It was really interesting and I understood it very much better than in my guide book. And he was very funny.

So after a day off, it was time to walk again. And I'm lucky, cause it was Saturday, which means the weekend and really fewer people driving. And the sun was shining! I walk on the north side of the Boyne River until I could join the sea again, crossing some beautiful dunes at the end. Then I spend almost the rest of the day walking along the beach, with sun in my back. I have to say, that those beaches are almost wild, which means there's no council to clean them (at least in this season), so you can see every rubbish the sea brings and believe me there's a lot of plastic, most of the time bottles. It really makes me sad to see how much the sea turned into a bin. I had to take off my shoes to cross a little river, water was still very cold, but it was good for my feet. I made a stop in Clogherhead for lunch at Roberto's who served me some spaghettis carbonara. Then I had to follow a little road, and then the beach again. I finally found a place between the beach and a field (with rabbits), hidden, but with a sea view. Moon was shining, I could hear the sound of the waves, and the cow too. And it smelled cow. The night was fresh. I totally forgot about the hour change, so I woke up too early, but soon enough to see the sun rising. It was beautiful, calm, quiet, nobody, nothing except the sea, and the sun. It worth getting out of the sleeping bag with only 2°C in the tent.
