Day 36 - Thursday, April 26th 2018: Buncrana to Grianan of Aileach 20 km / Total 787 km, 12°C, sunny
Buncrana is a little town (the biggest of Inishowen) quite animated, but with not as many pubs as in Clonmany (where I saw at least 10 pubs). I walked along the coast and the golf club, until Burnfoot where I found a place to eat. Full Irish breakfast. At least no chips. But most of the time, I have no choice: that or a burger with chips. Then it was a road with a lot of traffic (at 4 pm) and for once it was written "non-suitable for pedestrian", good to advise me. For the 1st time, I saw a woman driver showing she disagreed with the fact I was walking along the road. It's more a French reaction in my opinion. But sometimes I don't have a choice. Anyway, after that, it was just a little road, up to the circle stones Grianan of Aileach, which Emmett indicated to me. It was said it closed at 6:30 pm, so I couldn't stay there for sunset as he advised me. And most of all, there were indications saying "no camping", so I couldn't stay there. But the place was great because you can have a beautiful 360° view of Londonderry, Lough Foyle, Urris Hills, Lough Swilly and the South. But it is very windy.
I got down and found sheep in the middle of the road. They came to me, asking for food thinking I was their farmer (come on, they spend their time eating grass, how can they be so hungry?) and I made them afraid enough to get back to their field. Training my shepherd skills! Then I found a little path between fields to put my tent, out of sight. But the ground was made of stones, not very good to settle my tent. Well as I have a very good mattress (made in Ireland) I had a good sleep, even if it was very cold at night, close to 0°C. Clear sky, bright stars and bright moon, everything was frozen in the morning.
