Day 27 - Monday, April 16th 2018: Downhill to Limavady 22 km / Total 589 km, cloudy
The beginning of the day was idyllic. The coastal road after Downhill was closed, so it gave me a good reason to walk along the beach, to Benone. Can you imagine, Monday morning, the sun, the sea, and for once my shadow on the sand. It was so cool. In Benone, as I just left the beach, there were toilets. I mention it because, that's one great thing with British people: they really have public toilets, free and clean. In France, it's hard to find public toilets, most of the time, you have to pay for them, and when not, they really are dirty. So for that point, and as I'm a woman, it's something I really appreciate. So those ones were, clean, new and there were showers! And guess who financed it? The EU! And it was not the first time I saw a structure built with the help of the EU. In my opinion, Northern Ireland might miss the EU ...
Then it's the inland road, with less sheep in the land, because around Lough Foyle there are fertile land, better for cereals, etc. The road follows Binevenagh, and the feet of its cliff, before joining Roe Valley. Honestly, there was nothing for lunch on the road, no pub, no restaurant. Only a picnic area at Swan bridge, where I learned that Roe Valley, came from the Roe River, which means red, and in deed, it's brown almost red water.
If the weather was sunny at the beginning, then it turned cloudy, and was very windy, with South wind, and I was walking in South direction, so I had to face it. I arrived in Limavady around 4 pm and found a bakery/coffee shop to take a break, eat something and have a rest. But it closed at 5 pm. In fact, almost everything closed at 5 pm (which is very early, when you've been living in Paris and do your shopping until 8 pm). And when everything's closed, the only living place remaining is the pub, now I know why everybody goes there!
So I decided to go directly to Joanne's house, who hosted me for the night. And she had a bath. I know it's not ecological, but, at least, in a bath, I don't stand on my poor feet! It was such a luxury for me!
