Day 20 - Monday, April 9th 2018: Carrickfergus to Larne 20 km / Total 421 km, 10°C, cloudy
I left Belfast Lough into the fog, and get back to the East Coast. I walked across very loyalist towns. They planted an entire wood for the Queen's Jubilee, borders of the footpath are painted in blue, white and red (not the french flag, it's the Union Jack colour's), and when you arrived in Larne roundabout, there's a huge crown (like the Queen's crown) in its middle. Just in case I didn't get the message, they are unionists here. Just before Larne, there was a kind of industrial zone, well it looks like a huge open mine, and I was very surprised how much they dig into the hill. But the more surprising was all the signs and indications that cars must not stop there. At the moment, I really didn't understand why cars would stop there. Was there something to hide? Army secret weapon? Industrial danger? I had a look, and apart from the white part of the wall, it seems there was nothing. So I asked Google about Magheramorne quarry, and I discovered it's the place where was filmed Game of Thrones (Castle Black, The Wall and Hardmore battle). Now I understand what they wanted to hide it! Suddenly it all makes sense. They tried to avoid spoilers, of course.
In Larne I found a campiste. Campsites are good, because, it's legal, you can have water, hot shower, toilets, great. But nothing to charge my phone. And it doesn't avoid the tent to get wet in the morning, so I still had to pack it like that!
