Day 17 - Wednesday, April 4th 2018: Ballywalter to Helen's Bay (Bangor) 27 km / Total 357 km, 4°C, rainy
Third rainy day. In the 1st town I reached, Millisle, I had to make a stop in a fish and chips, and asked for a hot cup of tea. That's funny how every people I met that day said "Lovely day". Isn't it?
In Donaghadee, the next town, I found a place, with no winds, for lunch, and decided to finish my boiled rice from my dinner. It's almost like sushis, without salmon. But after when I tried to walk again, the wind was awful, and my fingers got frozen, so I went back into the town, and found a coffee shop, where I had a hot chocolate with a muffin. Let's forget about the coastal road, down the street, the waves started to flood the road. So let's take the inland road. At least, on that road, there was Gas station, which also means toilet (I'm gonna pee all around this island, like a dog with its territory). And there, an old lady wished me the weather may improve. And it did. Well, at least maybe because it was inland, so the wind was less strong. Unfortunately, no footpath. Just before Bangor, the rain finally stopped. Bangor is a pretty city, with nice Victorian houses. I think the rich people working in Belfast live there. From Bangor, there's a lovely coastal path to Holywood. But I stopped in Helen's Bay, where I found another couchsurfer, Ben. He travelled a lot like me, in almost every European countries, apart from the Island countries (Malta and Cyprus), and crossed Europe, from London to Istanbul by bike, which is really amazing. After 10 years abroad, living mostly in Brussels, and a little bit in Amsterdam (the bicycle city) he decided to come back home to finish his studies. Linked to the bicycle of course. He welcomed me in his ancient family house, a very big one, a very pretty place. He turned vegan 2 months ago, so I had the honour to taste his vegan "gratin de chou-fleurs" and it was really good! And even if the house was big and hard to warm, Ben put an electric heater in my room, and I had a warm and quiet sleep, which I deeply appreciated!
