Day 149 - Thursday, September 6th 2018: Cork to Carrigtohill 19 km / Total 3078 km, 19°C, cloudy

After getting some rest and my rescue glasses, I was ready for the last part of my trip: the coastline from Cork to Dublin.

But first, I had to get out of town. After climbing some stairs, I got to the top of one of the hill dominating the city centre island and started to walk the very long Old Youghal Road crossing what's now Cork suburbs. It took me almost two hours before reaching my first field. Even if it was mostly urban walk that day, I found little roads to avoid the highway getting into Cork.

For lunch break, I found a very modern and cosy self-service pub. Everybody coming there seemed pretty well dressed. How weird it must be when a hiker like me with such a big backpack get inside! But the food was good, with a large portion and not so expensive, I asked for nothing else.

In the afternoon, I reached Carrigtohill when all the teenagers were leaving high school. I don't really like to cross a town where all teens look at me like I was an alien!

The campsite I found was close to the highway, so it was very noisy. Even at 3 am, there was still some traffic, maybe from trucks leaving Cork's big harbour? It was definitely not a quiet and peaceful night. And I felt like I didn't leave the busy urban area yet ...
