Day 127 - Saturday, August 11th 2018: Glenlarhan to Kenmare 22 km / Total 2624 km, 19°C, cloudy
Ticks attack. I hate these bugs. Where did they come from? I wasn't on a field used by animals, and the place was quite rocky and dry. They really are a nightmare. I never had to face so many ticks in any other country I've been camping in before. Maybe because there's a lot of cattle in Ireland?
So as they were on my tent, I had to get out carefully to avoid them. Packing a wet tent and with ticks: things were getting worse!
I left early because the weather forecast predicted heavy rain in the afternoon, the rest of a tropical storm named Debby. I decided to follow the Kerry Way. On the section between Tahilla and Blackwater bridge, I met no one. The walk was most of the time under little trees, which protected me against the soft rain and quick showers. I even passed through a lovely wood tunnel, where the sheep found a shelter.
At Blackwater bridge, as I was taking a short break, I met a couple of German hikers. They were walking from Sneem to Kenmare, which represented a walking day of 34 km. Definitely too much for me.
The next section was along the shore, under big pine trees, on a forest road. There, I could almost walk fast!
I left the Kerry Way in Templenoe, as I was starving and looking for a place to eat. The first one I found was the restaurant of a golf club. Unfortunately, there was a wedding on that day, so not only everybody was very well dressed (compared to me in my hiking clothes) and the only food I could get was a toasted sandwich with chips.
I left under the heavy rain and walked the last hour and a half on the Ring of Kerry, still busy, before reaching Kenmare.
It's a pretty nice town, one of the best I've visited, with old buildings and colourful, with a lot of shops, pubs and restaurants. I really liked the atmosphere.
After a light dinner and a warm shower (because I was really stinky), I went to a pub, to enjoy a fresh cider while listening to the Saturday Evening Irish Music Live.
