Day 108 - Sunday, July 22nd 2018: Kilrush to Tarbert 11 km / Total 2221 km, 22°C, sunny
It was not really a day of the walk. It was more of a technical issue day.
After getting less than 5 min of almost hot water to wash my hair, I packed my stuff and left the hostel, looking for a real good breakfast, which I found in the main pub of the village. Let's go for a full Irish Breakfast, sometimes I miss it when I don't eat it for a while.
With new strength in my body, I went to the supermarket, where I found a Revolution Launderette, an automatic laundry that provides detergent, a washing machine and a dryer. I put all my clothes, towel and even the socks I was wearing and waited sitting on my bag, reading.
So being clean, with clean hair and clothes, I was ready to leave the County. On the way to Killimer where the ferry was, I had to stop just before Money Point energetic station, because of an old tractors race for charity. Hundred of tractors on the road ... It took a moment until they all passed!
When I arrived in Killimer, a ferry was about to leave. But I thought I could take the next one in 30min and first get some sandwich and ice cream. I remembered the time I was running on the platform of the subway station to get into the metro, while the next one was only in 2min.
It was a short cross over the Shannon River, only 20min. Of course, I was the only pedestrian. Unfortunately, I didn't see any dolphins. It says that there are some living in the area.
And suddenly, I was in Kerry County, avoiding the 140 km turn around the Shannon River via Ennis and Limerick, as people told me it wasn't worth it. And as the Wild Atlantic Way doesn't go there, it's not really the coastline.
On my arrival in Tarbert, there was a nautical race, music, barbecue. Sunday party.
I walked along the woods where I was ready to camp until I reached the village. On the internet, the hostel seemed to be full. But who knows? Maybe they could let me put my tent in their garden. If you try nothing, you get nothing. So I went to the hostel and rang. A woman opened the door, I told her I was looking for accommodation. She let me get in, and gave me a bed. In fact, they were absolutely not full. Bookings were just not opened on the internet. And it seemed like I was the only guest! So my instinct was correct!
