Day 107 - Saturday, July 21st 2018: Doonaha to Kilrush 19 km / Total 2210 km, 17°C, cloudy
A little road on Saturday with quite a busy traffic. What's happening? There was a wedding in the church at the end of the road in Lisdeen.
On the other side of the road, there was a restaurant. So I decided to get there for lunch. Inside some guests waiting for the ceremony, some of them drinking, but mostly, women in pretty dresses who needed to use the bathrooms. I asked if I could have lunch, but the old lady (maybe the grandmother) told me they only served food for dinner. So I decided to go to the shop next door to find whatever I could: a banana, mars, some Pringles. The woman who served me (maybe the mother) then went to see me outside and asked if I wanted a sandwich that she could make for me. As I said yes, she took me back into the restaurant and made a sandwich and soup just for me. And when I asked to pay, she said it was for free. It was very generous and very kind. I was afraid that in the South during the summer holidays, people wouldn't help me as I would be just another tourist. But no, Irish people remain generous everywhere and all the year.
And in the afternoon, I was back on the busy narrow N67. With a flow of cars every 30mins, which should match the ferry arrival from Kerry. When I could, I stepped aside in the high grass (that can't be cut because of an invasive plant), so I didn't know where I put my feet. And one in a third time, it's on a plastic bottle!
When I arrived at my hostel, the lady didn't know I was coming and was surprised to find me at the front door. "Are you the two people from the Netherlands ?". No, I'm French, and this is my backpack, a big one for sure, but definitely not a human, or it would be walking by itself (which I'd deeply appreciate). But finally, she found my booking, and the hostel wasn't full, so it wasn't a problem.
I went to the shop because I wanted some vegetables from dinner, and I tried to buy something locally. So it was just fresh carrots and delicious strawberries from Ireland.
I wanted to wash my hair that evening, as I had no opportunities to do it during the week. Unfortunately, there was no hot water in the building. One of these moments I thought it's not better than in my tent ...
