Day 10 - Wednesday, March 28th 2018: Newry to Rostrevor 19 km / Total 217 km, 11°C, sunny
After a good sleep, I went down to the city centre, in order to find the post office, because I wanted to send back home some stuff in order to make my bag lighter. I also had to find ATM to get some cash in pound and was quite surprised when I discovered the money is different here from the one in England, there's no Queen's face on it! In the shopping centre, I found an outdoor shop, where I decided to buy new shoes. The ones I had, I bought them almost 6 years ago, to go to Norway, which is a very wet country, they were good shoes, but they were too used, so that's why I wanted better shoes, waterproof ones. It was a little bit weird to change my shoes at the shopping centre, and throw the old ones into the bin. I also bought new socks, pink, but made with merinos wool, and they are so comfortable!
While I was leaving the city, I was walking along a big road again, and I really needed a yellow jacket "be safe, be seen", to be sure the cars will see me (because my bag is green, and I wear black clothes). And there was a bike shop, sure I was going to found one inside. I went in, found the jacket and came to pay for it. The guy told me it was half price, and then he looked at me and my big bag and asked what I was doing here. So I explained, and he stood like that with my cash in his hand, and finally decided to give it back to me, because he loves stories like mine. It was very kind to him, I felt very grateful, and the only thing I did was to give him my card, so he can follow my story. Soon I left the big road, for the inside little one. Some dogs run after me, but it was alright, they just run, and shout, they don't bite. The weather was sunny, had to put on my sunglasses. But my feet started to be painful, that was excepted with new shoes. Everybody knows it's better not to wear new shoes when you're hiking, they must have been "broken" before. Well, it was my feet which were broken at that moment. I arrived in Warrenpoint exhausted and had to stop for more than an hour. So I ate and took my shoes off. Later, I started walking again slowly and reached Rostrevor. I wanted to go to Cloughmore Stone and put my tent there. But in Rostrevor, there was a campsite at Kilbroney park, and I thought it was better. Well, the land was wet and not flat, but at least I had a hot shower. The main difference with wild camping is that, at night, the toilets are a little bit more far away from my tent. Although, it gave me the occasion to watch the sky, and it was full of stars! But the night was cold, and it rained again in the morning, just when I wanted to pack my tent. I waited, but finally, I had no choice and had to pack it wet, unfortunately.
